Parodying the timeworn excuses people give for not attending church, the Rev. Sidney Laing of Dublin, Ireland, wrote

“Ten Reasons Why I Never Wash.” 

          “I was made to wash as a child.”

          “People who wash are hypocrites…They reckon they are cleaner than other people.”

          “There are so many different kinds of soap, I could never decide which one was right.” 

          “I used to wash, but it got boring so I stopped.”

          “I still wash on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter.

          “None of my friends wash.”

          “I’m still young—when I’m older and have got a bit dirtier I might start washing.”

          “People who make soap are only after your money.”

Those ridiculous claims do make one chuckle, but make such an argument tearing down the excuses many make.

In regard to the church, I find confidence and encouragement in Jesus’ words: Matthew 16:16-18  “And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Jesus answered and said to him, You are blessed, Simon, son of Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in Heaven.  And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25
