What It Means To Be “Dog Tired”

One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour. This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: “Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. “

The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with eight children – he’s trying to catch up on his sleep.”.

I like that illustration.  I hope you are able to equate with it to some extent.  We need to acknowledge that the Bible has much to say about getting rest and being refreshed.  In Mark 6 we find our Savior instructing his disciples to “rest a while”: “And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.  And he said unto them, ‘Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while:’ for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.  And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.” Mark 6:30-32

I pray you are taking time to be refreshed & resting in our Savior, Pastor Larry
