Watching like a Hawk
I paused at a place that I frequent to refresh myself toward the end of my bike ride the other day. It is a little park located at the end of a small peninsula next to the intercoastal waterway. While drinking some water I heard the cries of an Osprey hawk. I looked to my left and it was just there perched on a tree 50 yards from me. It was eyeing me very carefully. I walked a few steps closer to get a photo. Due to my stealth (Lol) I was able to get quite close. I snapped a shot or two and then really looked carefully at the hawk. I truly saw its eyes follow my moves. It was an interesting moment in nature to say the least. The intense scrutiny I sensed from the hawk, made me think about how God looks closely at our lives and certainly doesn’t miss a thing. It reminded me of the fun story I’ll retell you here:
The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray, “Take only one. God is watching.”
Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. One child made another note that said, “Take as many as you want. God is watching the apples.”
Psalm 11:4 states: “The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.”
Hebrews 4:13 “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
In Genesis 16:13 Hagar makes the statement, So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”
