The Metal Detector
My brother-in-law Al asked me to experiment with his new metal detector a few weeks ago. It wasn’t garnering the results he was hoping for and thought maybe I could give an assessment as to whether the device was worth continuing with. So, I got around to using it and testing its capabilities searching for any hidden treasures in my yard. It was a learning experience for me since I don’t recall ever trying to metal detect before this. Unfortunately for the shortness of this story, I will not reveal to you at this time what I discovered.
I would like to direct you to what we should all consider much more valuable than any ancient artifact or mineral riches found from a treasure hunt:
Wisdom/Discernment in Proverbs 2:3-5 “Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.”
The Kingdom of Heaven in Matt. 13:44-46 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
Eternal Treasure in 1 Timothy 6:18,19 “They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
May our hearts be captured by the depth of God’s riches,
