The Little Child In You
“I asked a senior aged man once what it was like to be old and to know the majority of his life was behind him. He told me that he has been the same age his entire life. He said the voice inside of his head had never aged. He has always just been the same boy… He said he watched his body age and his faculties dull but the person he is inside never got tired. Never aged. Never changed.
… The next time you encounter a senior person, look at them and know they are still a child… and children will always need love, attention and purpose.” ~ Author Unknown
Wednesday, Captain Kirk, USS Enterprise, Star Trek fame, will lift off into space as a credible trip out of earth’s orbit. The amazing part of William Shatner’s trip is, he is 90 years young this year! The voice of the child still speaks to his heart and he continues to respond with a… “let’s do it!”
Ah, you can take the man out of childhood. But you can’t take childhood out of the man. And God help anyone who loses the wonder of youth. What a sad life.
When young you can’t wait to get your first: bike; driver’s license; kiss; day after graduation; marriage…
But so many reach the age where they wish to return to those magical years of their past.
How sad in both scenarios. In each you miss the wonder of today: a new sunrise; smile from a stranger; the wag of a dog’s tail; the flower bursting through the crack in a hard but broken rock…
The Psalmist put it this way, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.” Psalm 37:25-26
May I challenge you to find your little child. He / she is still there. No matter how old you become… no matter how influential you are… there’s a little child inside of you filled with wonder just waiting for you to reawaken.
Keep thinking young, Pastor Larry
