Perfect Parenting
Jesus’ words: “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7:11
A few days ago, I witnessed a parent dropping off their 1st grader at a small private school. It was a precious scene with the child smiling and waving at their mom or dad as she walked up to the school door. A number of thoughts and emotions boiled up in me as I witnessed this cherished exchange. Being a parent of two grown young men, I traveled back in time in my mind to when they were children attending elementary school. How great those days were and how time flies!
The other subject that came to my mind was the ongoing parenting of our Father God. I need to be reminded from time to time that He is the perfect parent and encourages us from our young “spiritual age” all through our journey to “spiritual adulthood”. If we choose well, and commit ourselves to Him daily, we are promised to grow and mature.
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” Psalm 37:3-6
I know that I’ve not been the “perfect parent”, but by God’s grace He saw fit to help us example His parenting from time to time.
Let’s commit to grown spiritually under the perfect Parent – Father God.
“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” 1John2:12-14
