Partial Description of the LIFE of DAVID FLOOD

This week I was reminded of God’s perfect timing and our noticeably short time here on earth. “Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.” James 4:14  May the following story challenge you and I to live all our years for our Savior.

David Flood and His Young wife left their homeland of Sweden to answer the call of God to become missionaries in Africa.  Life there was more difficult then they had imagined and the work was hard.  It just didn’t seem like they were reaching the people.  In fact, at the end of ten years they had one convert, a ten-year-old boy.  Just about this time his wife gave birth to their youngest child, a girl, but his wife died in childbirth.  Absolutely shattered, David Flood, decided to go home to Sweden. 

He booked passage for his children and himself with the few funds he had left.  When trying to board the newborn daughter was not allowed to board because her papers were not correct.  He didn’t know what to do.  He had spent almost everything on the tickets.  So, he left the baby with some friends and boarded with the other children, stating he would come back to get the daughter. 

He never did.  In fact, back in Sweden his life totally fell apart.  He tried to drown his sorrows in alcohol.  Decades later he was in failing health.  His daughter from Africa, who was living for the Lord, came to see him and begged him to give his life back to God.  He said that he tried to serve God, but all he had to show for all of his efforts and heartache was a 10-year-old convert.  “But, Father,” his daughter said, “Didn’t anyone ever tell you that that ten-year-old is now a preacher who has been serving the Lord for years and has started hundreds of churches all over the nation of Africa.” 

David was stunned.  He did not know how much time he had left, but he gave his life back to the Lord.  He only lived three more years, but they were years lived for the Lord.
