Insurance?

Recently I investigated finding lower rates on some insurance for a family member.  It is intriguing to me that there is significant savings found while shopping for new insurance.  Praise the Lord we can be good stewards in saving some money during this current season.

Uniquely fascinating is the thought of how the word “save” and “insurance” can be related and cross referenced in the Scriptures.

We find in Isaiah 28:14-18  “Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem!  Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;  therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’  And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”  Then your covenant (insurance) with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it.”

One paraphrase of Isaiah 28:15 puts it this way, “You say, ‘We’ve taken out good life insurance. We’ve hedged all our bets, covered all our bases. No disaster can touch us. We’ve thought of everything. We’re advised by the experts. We’re set.’”

In regard to our soul, God makes it clear that He is the only one who saves.  We are not to trust in ourselves or any man for assurance (insurance), but His provision alone.

In John 6:29  Jesus replied, “This is the work of God: that you believe in the One He has sent.”

Lastly we find in Titus 3:5  “He saved us– not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

Faith in Christ & his work alone is what should assure us individually that our soul is secure and “insured” and kept by His power for eternity.
