Individuality

I like this quote:

“A graduation ceremony is an event where the commencement speaker tells thousands of students dressed in identical caps and gowns that ‘individuality’ is the key to success.”  –Robert Orben 

One of the passages I learned as a young man is from Romans 12, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2 

These verses command young and old to think of our bodies and lives as belonging to God.  It also challenges us to realize we are not to conform to this current world’s culture and system.  We are all called to a “higher standard”.  This calling can be difficult at times, because it is many times easier to “go with the flow”.  May we contemplate the awesome reward there is for each one who stays committed to the ideals Christ has for us and not give in to the type of life  the world promotes.
