God’s Machine Shop
There was a company based in Nashville, TN that produced automobiles from 1908-1914. My family and I had the opportunity to visit some of the shops that are now occupying portions of the original Southern Motorworks assembly floor. I understand that there are only about nine (9) Marathon automobiles still in existence. This company owned and operated huge machines that were mostly powered by steam engines. Some of the engines and many of the large pieces of equipment have been restored and placed on display in the main hallways of the main building. One thing that was unique to this industry’s time period is the many different tools that were driven by huge belts powered off of the various steam engines. Some of these belts were so big that they stretched though wall openings to get into the next room. There would be one tremendous belt that stretched through connecting the great dynamo of an engine to an axle that would turn whatever tool was needed at the time. Until the engine moves, that machine shop stands helpless. It furnishes power for every machine.
We are God’s machines. This world is His great machine shop, and we are helpless until He turns on the power. A church should be powerhouse making available God’s power to the rest of the world. We deal in power and when we, the church, cease dealing in power, there is no excuse for our existence.
“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” – 2 Peter 1:3-4
