Get off the Bridge!
On a recent bike ride, I stopped near the Albee bridge (it spans over the intercoastal). After riding five miles, I stopped to drink from my water bottle. As I paused to refresh, I noticed a large yacht waiting for the bridge to open up so it could pass under. So, being the curious observer, I watched as the last vehicles went over and then heard the bridge bell chime. The interesting thing to me was that there was a jeep on the bridge that had crossed the margin and was indecisive as to what they should do. After about 20 seconds or so, they backed up behind the margin rather than risk going for it. Not only was there that jeep, but also a vacationing couple on the bridge past the margin line as well. They were confused as to what to do and started going one way and then decided to go back. I’m sure the bridge tender was grateful they finally decided to step back off the bridge.
This experience reminded me of what we find in the Book of James. In James 1:5-8 we read, “But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a double-minded individual, unstable in all his ways.”
