Freedom From Anxiety
Many of you are aware that my dad was an avid fisherman. If you knew John, you can surely relate to the following story:
In his book, “None of these Diseases”, Dr S. I. McMillan tells of going on a fishing trip in Canada with his daughter, Linda, and his wife, Alice. They arrived at their cabin around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. To catch fish for their Sunday meals, Dr McMillan and Linda rowed up the treacherous Mattawan rapids while Alice stayed at the cabin to unpack. 8:00 came, but there was no sign of father or daughter. It was lunacy to be on the Matawan rapids past dark, but instead of worrying, Alice recalled the verse of scripture she had been memorizing, Psalm 34:4. 9:00 came, and still no sign of her loved ones. She prayed and rested her trust in the Lord. At 10:00 she heard a voice. It was Linda: “Daddy sent me by land. He didn’t want to bring me down the rapids in the dark. The fish were slow and biting, but once they started, they bit like a house of fire.” Still more waiting followed, but her faith gave her power over panic until, at 11:00 p.m., her husband showed up at the dock. Alice chose Faith over fear, trusting in the promise God had given her in Psalm 34:4.
Psalm 34:4 “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.”
