Filled or Empty?

This last Thursday morning at our men’s fellowship I picked up a Boston Crème donut to have with my coffee.

After a few minutes of drinking the coffee I took a bite and then another and then, yes another.  What surprised me was that there was no filling in this supposed scrumptious breakfast treat.  One of the best parts of this donut had been left out! The delicious custard filling was not there.  I was quite disappointed. 

I explained this horror to my wife later and she brought up that at least someone hadn’t replaced the filling with hot sauce!  Being the trickster at heart she is, only she would go with this line of thinking right?  She was surely correct.  I am super glad the donut didn’t have hot sauce in it.

This experience leads to a spiritual application for us.  Our lives can be “filled” with all kinds of things.  We must ask ourselves if we filled with that which is godly & pleasant or with that which ungodly or corrupt.

The apostle Paul commended the Christians at Rome for being full of goodness. We read in Romans 15:14, “I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.”

Our minds and hearts will have that which builds in us goodness when we stay consistent in our reading & meditating on God’s Word. Pastor Larry
