The Speeding Ticket that Wasn’t

There’s a story about a man who was running late for work and driving a little faster than he should have. As he rounded a corner, he saw the worst possible sight: a police officer standing beside his motorcycle, radar gun pointed straight at him.

He hit the brakes, pulled over, and waited for justice to fall like a hammer.

The officer walked up and said, “Sir, do you know how fast you were going?”

The man sighed, “Officer, at this point I think it would be quicker if you just told me.”

The officer tried not to laugh. “Well,” he said, “I clocked you at 52 in a 35.”

The man nodded. “That sounds about right. I was hoping you didn’t notice.”

The officer paused, then said, “Tell you what. I’m not giving you a ticket today.”

The man blinked. “You’re… not?”

“Nope,” the officer said. “But I am giving you something.” He handed him a small card that read:

‘Drive safely. Someone loves you.’

The man stared at it. “That’s it?”

“That’s it,” the officer said. “Mercy. Don’t waste it.”

Psalm 103:10 states: “He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.”
