War and Peace

I heard a statistic this week from Bruce Scott (Friends of Israel Ministry) that stuck with me for a few days.  I was shocked when I heard how few years our world has lived with times of peace.  Here are some STATISTICS ON WAR AND THEIR COSTS:

A group of academics and historians has compiled this startling information: Since 3600 B.C., the world has known only 292 years of peace! During this period there have been almost 15,000 wars large and small, in which 3.64 billion people have been killed. The value of the property destroyed is equal to a golden belt around the world 97.2 miles wide and 33 feet thick. Since 650 B.C., there have also been 1,656 arms races, only 16 of which have not ended in war. The remainder ended in the economic collapse of the countries involved.

The last passage of Scripture in the Bible that uses the word “war” is found in Revelation 19, “And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.” Rev. 19:19. This takes place after the 7 years of tribulation here on earth.  Our great enemy the devil is defeated and our Prince of Peace (Jesus) will rule and reign!  Can I get an “Amen” or “Praise the Lord!”?

May you and I live in this promise from Jesus: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
