Examples

Many of us have or have had people in our lives we aspire to be like.  In addition to those we may know, there may be characters in the God’s Word.  The church at Thessalonica was one of those such examples.  Paul writes, “We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;  And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:  So that ye were examples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3,6,7

The other day I saw the prayer of Saint Francis on the courtyard wall at Sunset Lake Rehab.  May it inspire us to be examples to others.

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred, let me sow love

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

And where there is sadness, joy

O Divine Master, grant that I may

Not so much seek to be consoled as to console

To be understood, as to understand

To be loved, as to love

For it is in giving that we receive

And it’s in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it’s in dying that we are born to Eternal Life

Amen” – St. Francis

So, I challenge you this week to live out your life as an example and blessing to others.
